Concept explainers
To review:
The experiment was done by the researchers to see the growth of plants with wider girth in warmer areas in Siberian pines (Pinus sibirica) in Tarbagatay pass region in Mongolia. They estimated that the growth of trees is reverse in cooler areas. It was assumed that with the increasing temperature, trees are getting longer and girth is becoming wider. The graphical data was prepared by taking account of the ring widths of the plants and years of growth. The conclusion has to be inferred from the experiment on the basis of the graphical data.
Introduction:
The study of growth rings or annual growth rings that are present in the secondary root xylem is called herbchronology. These rings are mostly present in the perennial herbaceous plants. The annual growth rings are counted and it gives a rough idea about the age of the perennial plant.

- please Describe the data in Figure 2. Figure 2. Pre-dawn and midday leaf water potential (Ψleaf) for the two species at different dates throughout the year.arrow_forwardExplain the mechanisms for which the leaf water potential would be more negative at midday than at pre-dawn. Figure 2. Pre-dawn and midday leaf water potential (Ψleaf) for the two species at different dates throughout the year.arrow_forwardStomata are pores on the surface of plant leaves that allow for gaseous exchange. The numbers below shows the density of stomata on the leaf surfaces of three species of plants. Based on this information, which statement is incorrect? Stomata Density: Elodea (upper epidermis) = 0, (lower epidermis) = 0, Water Lily (upper) = 420, (lower) = 0, Black Walnut (upper) = 0, (lower) = 465 a) Since Elodea does not have any stomata, it does not carry out photosynthesis. b) In Elodea’s aquatic environment, stomata are not used to control gas exchange. c) Since black walnut trees thrive on land, stomata are located on lower surface to decrease the amount of water lost in the heat of the sun. d) Since water lilies live on the surface of water, transpiration occurs from the upper epidermis because that is where it is in contact with air.arrow_forward

True or false arrow_forwardRead and answer the question in the image.arrow_forwardRoscroot (Sedum integrifohum) is an herbaccous plant species that is found on limestone cliffs in southeastern Minnesota and westem New York. and on rocks slopes at high elevations (3,000 m. or - 10.000 At) in Colorado. In Minnesota and New York. the plants are sprawling and have -drooping leaves, whereas in Colorado the plants are erect and hold their caves upright. a. Briefly describe a study that vou could do in order to determine if the differences in plant morphology observed in these populations of roscroot are genetically based or due to environmental factors and describe the results that would allow vou to conclude that it is heritable.
