Solution:
The expansion of the universe is linked to the energy generated by the Big Bang. As matter travels away from the point of explosion, the speed of matter would decrease because of the gravitational pull of other celestial bodies. This may eventually lead to a halt of the expansion. As bodies continue to attract and there is no matter beyond the maximum expansion point, all matter would reverse the path, traveling back to the original explosion site. This would cause the universe to collapse in on itself.
Explanation of Solution
The Big Bang model describes that for very high temperature and density the universe expands with time.It also gives an explanation for the cosmic microwave background, large scale structure and abundance of light element.
