Chapter 30, Problem 5TYKT
Summary Introduction

To examine: Whether the statement “sporangium produces spores, no matter what group it is found” is true or false.

Introduction: Sporangium plays an essential role in asexual reproduction. It is usually found majorly on fungi and in some plants. The non-vascular plants contain sporangium and are divided into two types, namely homosporous plants and heterosporous plants. Both the plants form spores, which in turn develops into male and female gametes.

sporangiophores are interpreted as modified branches and consist of a stalk and a shield- like portion. Inside of the sporangium, look for the spores each with a pair of elongated appendages called elaters. These elaters respond to changes in the humidity to aid in spore dispersal. 18. Label the spores on Figure 6 below. Figure 6. Equisetum strobilius l.s. Equisetum is homosporous and produces green, free-living, bisexual gametophytes. The picture below is of a moss growing on my roof. It shows both the gametophyte and the sporophyte phases of the life cycle. Make a sketch and label which part of the moss is the gametophyte and which is the sporophyte. (Alternatively, you can find a live moss with both phases and take a picture, label it and upload here.)
