Baffled Car Rental Agency is owned by a former race car driver with psychic powers. Baffled has two classes of rentals, short-term and long-term. Short-term rentals are in the customer's hands for only one half of a week, but long-term rentals are in the customer's hands for two weeks. Our psychic friend currently rents an average of 200 cars to his short termers and 100 cars to long-term customers each week.
Short-term renters pay $200 per week and long-term renters pay $120 per week. Regardless of whether the rental is short-term or long-term, a rental return follows the same process steps; it is checked in and routed either to Baffled's garage for repairs (about 20% of the cars) or straight to Baffled's cleaning facility for washing and vacuuming (the remaining 80% of the cars).
On average, about 100 cars are waiting to be cleaned for an average cost of $10 per car. Cars needing repairs spend an average of two weeks in the repair shop waiting for mechanics to effect repairs at…

Ray Smith, a gift basket retailer, has stores in three shopping centres. The average selling price of a
decorated gift basket is $60, and the average cost of each sale is $36. A new shopping centre is
opening where Ray wants to open a store, but he is not sure which rental option he should choose.
The landlord has offered three options for the new store:
1. paying a fixed rent of $20,000 a month, or
2. paying a base rent of $14,500 a month plus 8% of monthly revenue received, or
3. paying a base rent of $7,200 plus 14% of revenue received up to a maximum rent of
$30,000.
Required:
For each option, compute the breakeven sales and the monthly rent paid at break-even.

The number of webpage views is surprisingly large, but not everyone finally rents. Many leave the website because of not finding the suits they like. On average, JSH sees the demand of 200 rental orders per day. To ensure that enough customers find suits, JSH keeps 1,600 suits in their Rental-Ready Inventory, including different styles and sizes. This number must be substantial due to the variety of suits JSH keeps and the policy that JSH ships two suits (same style in two different sizes) to satisfy a customer’s request for one suit. When taking a rental order, JSH requires that a customer specify two sizes for the requested suit—the most…arrow_forwardWhat is the break-even point in number of pizzas that must be sold and the cash flow break even point in the number of pizzas that must be sold?arrow_forward
