Chapter 3, Problem 2SQ
Summary Introduction
Concept introduction: Carbon is the major constituent of organic molecules. Carbon and hydrogen together form organic compounds with other atoms. Carbon is the major atom in organic compounds due to its versatility in valency. Valency of an atom is the number of free electrons available in the atom to make bonds with other atoms in order to attain a stable octet configuration. Octet configuration is the thumb rule in chemistry, where atoms share, donate, or receive electrons from another atom to attain the noble gas configuration of Neon (in order to achieve a stable structure).
