Chapter 28.SE, Problem 35AP
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

Describe the effect on the protein produced if the DNA coding sequence “-CAA-CCG-GAT-“were miscopied as “-CGA-CCG-GAT-.

Concept introduction:

A mutation is a shift in a brief area of a genome's nucleotide sequence. Many mutations are point mutations that replace one nucleotide with another; others involve one or several nucleotides being inserted or deleted.

Mutations are caused either by DNA replication mistakes or by mutagens' harmful impacts, such as chemicals and radiation, which respond with DNA and alter the structures of individual nucleotides.

All cells have DNA-repair enzymes, which try to minimize the amount of mutations occurring. There are two ways these enzymes work, some are pre-replicative, searching for DNA for nucleotides with uncommon structures, replacing them before replication happens; others are post-replicative, checking for mistakes for freshly synthesized DNA, correcting any mistakes, they discover. Therefore, a possible mutation definition is a deficiency in DNA repair.
