To review:
Number the sequence of events that are responsible for initiating labor:
1. The hypothalamus of the mother and fetus stimulates the placenta to secrete prostaglandins.
2. Fetal cortisol levels increase andstimulate the placenta to release estrogen.
3. Prostaglandins and oxytocin stimulate the uterus to contract.
4. Estrogen stimulates the myometrium to form oxytocin receptors.
Introduction:
Parturition is the process where the fetus is expelled out of the mother’s body from the uterus through the vagina. It occurs in a sequential manner which is called labor. It usually occurs at the end of 39 weeks with a variation of 1-2 weeks. Premature births can cause the development of several complications in the child.

- Fill in the blank: The myometrium is largely composed of _______________________ tissue.arrow_forwardFor each hormone, select whether the hormone is increasing or decreasing at the beginning of parturition. In addition, select the correct effect that the change in hormone secretion causes. FSH LH Estrogen Progesterone GnRH Follicle Corpus luteum Hypothalamus Anterior pituitary Gonadotropic hormones are released by the anterior pituitary to regulate the functions of the gonads (testis in males and ovaries in females).Use the list to select a gonadotropic hormone, the structure it stimulates in the ovaries, and the main hormone that is released by that structure as a result. (There are two possible answers.) Record your answer as a 3 digit number from left to right in the same order as your answers from top to bottom of the list. ____ Gonadotropic hormone ____ Structure it acts on ____ Main hormone releasedarrow_forwardUse this storyboard to write and illustrate the journey of an egg from ovulation to menstruation.
