Chapter 26, Problem 5MC
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

The basic element of every organic chemical is the carbon atom. The inorganic carbon atom is transformed into an organic compound by autotrophs. Autotrophs are organisms that are able to synthesize their own food from light or inorganic chemicals. The Calvin-Benson cycle (endergonic) needs a great deal of energy. Life on the Earth is reliant on Calvin-Benson cycle for the fixation of the carbon atom. This cycle happens in the photosynthetic bacteria (cytoplasm) or in the eukaryotes (chloroplasts).
