Question
Chapter 26, Problem 5MC
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
The basic element of every organic chemical is the carbon atom. The inorganic carbon atom is transformed into an organic compound by autotrophs. Autotrophs are organisms that are able to synthesize their own food from light or inorganic chemicals. The Calvin-Benson cycle (endergonic) needs a great deal of energy. Life on the Earth is reliant on Calvin-Benson cycle for the fixation of the carbon atom. This cycle happens in the photosynthetic bacteria (cytoplasm) or in the eukaryotes (chloroplasts).

a) Name the process in "a" and any TWO (2) of the organisms involved.
b) Briefly explain how does the proses in "a" contribute to the carbon cycle.
c) How does "b" affect the environment in a negative way?
We learned an ironic twist in the film called "The Other Inconvenient Truth." It was that
a. agriculture creates more pollution than other sources, but we have to increase farming for the growing population
b. that nitrogen in the soil is significant pollution, but if we don't use these fertilizers we will not have enough food
c. That methane is produced by animals and by growing rice. So becoming vegetarian won't clear methane from the atmosphere.
d. agriculture uses 70% of fresh water mined , causing a salt water pollution too
