Interpretation:

The sites of cleavage during the trypsin catalyzed and the chymotrypsin catalyzed hydrolysis of the given protein are to be identified.

Concept Introduction:

Hydrolysis of the peptide bonds with the help of enzymes is selective.

Trypsin is a digestive enzyme which catalyzes the hydrolysis of the peptide bonds that involve the carboxyl group of arginine or lysine residue.

Chymotrypsin catalyzes the hydrolysis of the peptide bonds which involve the carboxyl group of amino acids having an aromatic side chain.

There are three such amino acids – phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan.
