Concept explainers
To determine: How much more acidic is stomach acid than water.
Concept introduction: pH is a logarithmic scale that will specify the basicity or acidity of an aqueous solution. It is the negative logarithm of hydrogen ion concentration. The pH value of base (alkali) is greater than 7. pH is expressed as a number that lies between 0 and 14. The pH value of acid is less than 7.
To predict: The way by which the stomach is affected when it is not protected from the effects of hydrochloric acid.
