To determine: Whether Figure 2.10a (triglyceride portion of fatty acid) given in the textbook is a nonpolar or polar molecule.
Concept introduction: The separation of charge into different positive and negative regions is called polarity. The electronegativity is defined as the ability of an atom to draw electrons away from another atom. The molecule formed by the unequal sharing of electrons between the atoms in a covalent bond is called the polar molecule. The molecule formed by the equal sharing of electrons between the atoms in a covalent bond is called the nonpolar molecule.
To predict: Whether the fatty acid portion of triglyceride given in Fig 2.10a in the textbook will dissolve in water or not.
