Interpretation:
The double-displacement (ping-pong) catalytic mechanism needs to be determined for the glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase I.
Concept Introduction:
A double displacement reaction follows a bimolecular mechanism. In the mechanism, two reactants say XY and MN reacts to form XM and YN product. This is due to the nucleophilic attack of 1 group on another which results in the release of groups to form new compound. The enzymatic double displacement reaction is also known as ping-pong reaction. It takes place when 1 or more products are formed before the binding of all substrate to the enzyme.
In the mechanism, the substrate bounces on and off the enzyme like a ping pong ball.
