Question
Chapter 24.2, Problem 4CC
Summary Introduction
To describe:
The type of food eaten and meal taken by humans, if they had the capability of fixing nitrogen like cyanobacteria.
Concept introduction:
Cyanobacteria are blue-green algae that have the ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen by the process of nitrogen fixation. Nitrogen fixation is a mechanism by which the atmospheric nitrogen is converted to the ammonia inside the bacteria for deriving energy with the help of enzymes. If humans develop the ability to fix nitrogen inside their body, then they will not require a high protein diet, which contains amino acids in large amounts. Therefore, the diet of the humans should contain carbohydrates and lipids.
