Concept explainers
Effect on internal energy of the systemwhen work is done adiabatically on the system and when the work is done by the system.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
As per first law of
Heat added to a system = Work done+ increase in internal energy
In an adiabatic process, there is no heat exchange for a system. So, when work is done on the system, the internal energy of the system increases and when the work is done by the system, the internal energy decreases.
Conclusion:
The internal increases when work is done on the system and decreases when work is done by the system.
