Introduction:

In mammals, proteins get broken down into smaller amino acid residues, which are used for the synthesis of nucleotides and other molecules in the body. The amino acid undergoes deamination, during which ammonia is synthesized. Ammonia is a toxic waste product that gets converted quickly into nontoxic urea. The nontoxic urea is reabsorbed through kidneys in order to maintain the osmotic gradient of the interstitial fluid.
