What is the “immune response,” and how does the lymphatic system initiate it?
To determine:
The meaning of the term immune response and the ways by which the lymphatic system can initiate this response.
Introduction:
The lymphatic system involves lymphatic cells, vessel, and several organs in the body. This system helps in transportation and help the body to fight against harmful pathogens. The main components of the lymphatic system are T-lymphocyte, B-lymphocyte, and macrophages.
Explanation of Solution
The immune response may be defined as the ability of the lymphatic system to recognize an antigen and produce specific substances to kill that harmful antigen. Certain virus, bacteria, fungi, and cancer cells can act as an antigen. The lymphatic system can initiate the immune response by recognizing the antigen. The antibodies are produced by the lymphatic system to kill the antigens. Some cells can directly destroy the antigen, and some cells become memory cells to encounter the antigen for the future.
