Concept introduction: Carbohydrates are defined as the polyhydroxy aldehyde or ketone or any compound that can be hydrolyzed to them. Glucose is an example of monosaccharide (Carbohydrates) and has a molecular formula C6H12O6. Glucose can exist in open structure as well as a ring structure. It is used as energy resource in most of the organisms.

Glucose exists in two forms α-D-glucose and β-D-glucose. β-D-glucose is more stable than α-D-glucose this is because naturally, occurring glucose exists in β-D-glucose form.
