Chapter 23.8, Problem 22CC
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: A plausible method for converting aniline into para-nitroaniline has to be found.

Concept Introduction:

Acetylation of an aromatic ring leads to the introduction of acetyl group in the functional group attached to the ring such as in amino group.  This is achieved by using acetyl chloride.  A mixture of nitric acid and sulfuric acid is called a nitrating mixture.  It leads the aromatic ring for the introduction of nitro group.  Deacetylation means the removal of acetyl group which is done by aqueous acidic or basic conditions.

To find: Convert aniline into para-nitroaniline by a plausible method

Do acetylation in aniline using acetyl chloride
