Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Oxygen is essential for the cells to maintain normal metabolic and physiological functions of the body. The partial pressure of oxygen (PO2) is the measure of oxygen in the arterial blood. The deprivation of oxygen when the tissues starve of oxygen or when it is unable to use oxygen by the cells is a condition referred to as hypoxia. In cases of mild hypoxia the symptoms are depressed physical and mental activities and the working capacity of muscles decreases whereas in severe hypoxia it leads to coma.
