Chapter 22.3, Problem 7CC
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: For the given set of compounds, the order of increasing basicity has to be found.

Concept Introduction:

If the lone pair of electrons on nitrogen atom in amine compound is delocalized, that compound is resonance stabilized.  It is also involved in aromatic stabilization.  As a result, a number of resonance structures are drawn for the delocalization of electrons in the structures.  So, the compound has less basic character.  If the lone pair of electrons on nitrogen atom in amine compound is localized, that compound doesn’t involve in resonance stabilization.  So, that compound has more basic character.  If electron-donating groups are attached to the ring, it leads to be a compound more basic character.  If electron-withdrawing groups are attached to the ring, it leads to be a compound very poor basic character.

SYNTHESIS REACTIONS. For the following reactions, synthesize the given products from the given reactants. Multiple reactions/steps will be needed. For the one of the steps (ie reactions) in each synthesis, write out the mechanism for that reaction and draw an energy diagram showing the correct number of hills and valleys for that step's mechanism.
