Thiolase is an enzyme which converts two molecules of acetyl CoA into acetoacetyl CoA in the mevalonate pathway. This enzyme is also termed as acetyl-coenzyme A acetyltransferases. Thiolase plays an important role in various biosynthetic pathways, including beta-oxidation of fatty acids.
