Explanation of Solution

The lower air pressure in the high altitudes makes it more difficult for oxygen to enter the vascular systems. Therefore, oxygen availability for the aerobic metabolism is low. In these conditions, the anaerobic pathway glycolysis will become more important in the active muscles. Glucose transporter 1 transports the glucose across the plasma membrane. The increase in GLUT 1 increases the intracellular glucose concentration. An increase in level of the enzyme phosphofructokinase increases the flux of glucose through the pathway.
