Phylum Chordate which is characterized by the presence of notochord and dorsal nerve cord consists of vertebrates and invertebrate animals which lack a vertebral column. Chordates diverge into two group one that consists of cranium or brain box (fishes, reptiles, mammals, and amphibians) and the other that lacks cranium (tunicates, hagfish, and lancelets).
