Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADP+) is a cofactor, which is used in many anabolic reactions. It requires NADPH as a reducing agent. The main source of NADPH in many animals is through the pentose phosphate pathway. This pathway generates NADPH and pentoses including ribose 5-phosphate.
