Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The energy efficiency of aluminum recycling needs to be explained and demerits of the large energy requirements of aluminum production from scratch needs to be explained.
Concept introduction:
The two main processes required from the extraction of aluminum from its ore are Bayer process and Hall Heroult process.

Explanation of Solution
The preparation of aluminum from scratch is a very extensive and energy consuming process, whereas in the recycling process of aluminum about 95% less energy is required as compared to fresh production. The production of new aluminum involves molten alumina which has a very high melting point whereas in the recycling of aluminum molten aluminum is involved which has a lower melting point and therefore requires less energy.
The recycling of aluminum is a simpler method than preparing fresh aluminum therefore it requires less energy.

If there won't be any products, because nothing will happen under these reaction conditions, check the box under the drawing area instead. Note: if the products contain one or more pairs of enantiomers, don't worry about drawing each enantiomer with dash and wedge bonds. Just draw one molecule to represent each pair of enantiomers, using line bonds at the chiral center. More... No reaction. Explanation Check O + G 1.
