The plasma membrane also termed as the cell membrane or the cytoplasmic membrane separates the cytoplasm, that is,the interior region of the cell containing cell organelles from the extracellular fluid or from the external environment of the cell. The plasma membrane structure regulates the transport of molecules across the membrane.
