Concept introduction: In a chemical reaction, when an electron is removed, it is known as oxidized state and when the electron is attached, it is known as reduced state. The release of electrons or increasing the oxidation state by a molecule, ion or atom is known as oxidation. The addition of electrons or decreasing the oxidation state by a molecule, ion or atom is known as reduction.
