Concept explainers
(a)
Interpretation: The names of acids are to be given. The chemical formulas of these acids are to be determined.
Concept introduction: The acids are formed by a union of hydrogen elements with other anionic elements. The formulas of acids are determined by equalizing the charges on both cation and anion. To name the acids, -hydro prefix is used, that is followed by the name of anion and at last acid word is added. The -ate or –ide word of anion is replaced by –ic suffix and –ite word is replaced by –ous suffix in acids. The oxoacids do not contain the –hydro word. Therefore, the given oxoacids are named without the use of –hydro word.
To determine: The name of the given acid.
(b)
