Chapter 2, Problem 22P
Summary Introduction

To determine: The pH of the resulting solution.

Introduction:

The splitting of water results in the formation of two ionic species hydrogen ion and hydroxide ion. The hydrogen ions and hydroxide ions are released in equal number when the water is dissociated. The alkalinity or acidity of the solution is determined by the pH (potential of hydrogen) of a solution. The pH of a solution is defined as the negative logarithm of the molar ion hydrogen ( H+ ) ion concentration. It is calculated by the formula pH=log [H+] .

Which type of enzyme catalyses the following reaction? oxidoreductase, transferase, hydrolase, lyase, isomerase, or ligase.
Which features of the curves in Figure 30-2 indicates that the enzyme is not consumed in the overall reaction? ES is lower in energy that E + S and EP is lower in energy than E + P. What does this tell you about the stability of ES versus E + S and EP versus E + P.
Looking at the figure 30-5 what intermolecular forces are present between the substrate and the enzyme and the substrate and cofactors.
