A small trailer and its load have a total mass of 250 kg. The trailer is supported by two springs, each of constant 10 kN/m, and is pulled over a road, the surface of which can be approximated by a sine curve with an amplitude of 40 mm and a wavelength of 5 m (i.e., the distance between successive crests is 5 m and the vertical distance from crest to trough is 80 mm). Determine (a) the speed at which resonance occur, (b) the amplitude of the vibration of the trailer at a speed of 50 km/h.

- The little brown bat is a common bat species in North America. It emits echolocation pulses at a frequency of 40 kHz, well above the range of human hearing. To allow observers to “hear” these bats, the bat detector as shown combines the bat’s sound wave at frequency f1 with a wave of frequency f2 from a tunable oscillator. The resulting beat frequency is isolated with a filter, then amplified and sent to a loudspeaker. To what frequency should the tunable oscillator be set to produce an audible beat frequency of 3 kHz?arrow_forwardMaximum fluctuation of kinetic energy in an engine has been calculated to be 2600 J. Assuming that the engine runs at an average speed of 200 rpm, the polar mass moment of inertia (in kg.m) of a flywheel to keep the speed fluctuation within ±0.5% of the average speed isarrow_forwardA 0.31kg block rest on a orizonal surface and is attached to a spring (constant=41 N/m ). - The compressor shown has a mass of 250 kg and operates at 2000 rpm. At this operating condition, the force transmitted to the ground is excessively high and is found to be mrw2f. where mr is the unbalance and wf is the forcing frequency. To fix this problem, it is proposed to isolate the compressor by mounting it on a square concrete block separated from the rest of the floor as shown. The density of concrete is 2400 kg/m3 and the spring constant for the soil is found to be 80 × 106 N/m. The geometry of the compressor leads to choosing a block that is 1.5 m by 1.5 m. Determine the depth h that will reduce the force transmitted to the ground by 75 percent.arrow_forwardDerive the expression for motion and determine the natural frequency of the system shown in the figure below. The interference radius of the assembly is 40 mm whilst its outer and inner radii are 250 mm and 20 mm, respectively. If the angular speed at which the ring-disc assembly becomes loose is 401.8 rad/sec, determine the shrink-fit pressure at the mating surface of the assembly?
