Question
Chapter 19, Problem 25E
Summary Introduction
To explain: The reason why carbonic anhydrase is also a component of the carboxysome.
Concept introduction:
The proteinaceous organelles that play an important role in improving the carbon fixation in proteobacteria and cyanobacteria are collectively called as carboxysomes. These organelles encapsulate carbonic anhydrase and ribulose 1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (RuBisCO) using a protein shell that is structurally similar to an icosahedral viral capsid.
