To determine:
List of hollow organs in the GI tract.

The human
Explanation of Solution
The GI tract is composed of a series of hollow organs, which are, mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, and anus. Food is ingested through the mouth and then passed down into the stomach via the esophagus. In stomach, it gets mixed with acid and digestive enzyme to form the chyme. Then, the chyme enters the small intestine for the proper digestion and absorption of the nutrients. After this, the chyme enters the large intestine, where the waste products are excreted out of the body via the rectum and anus.
The hollow organs of GI tract through which the apple would pass are mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, and anus.

- Figure 34.19 Which of the following statements about digestive processes is true? Amylase, maltaseT and lactase in the mouth digest carbohydrates. Trypsin and lipase in the stomach digest protein. Bile emulsifies lipids in the small intestine. No food is absorbed until the small intestine.arrow_forwardMatch the organ to its role in the digestive system esophagus [Choose] [Choose] makes bile to digest lipids absorbs water from the digested food and moves waste towards the rectum uses muscle contractions to push food towards the stomach sends digestive fluids-into the small intestine breaks down biological polymers into their monomers so they can be absorbed mechanically break down food, and use enzymes and acids to chemically break down food mechanically breaks down food through chewing, and chemically breaks down food with enzymes stomach liver gallbladder [ Choose ] small intestine [ Choose ] large intestine [Choose ] oral cavity [ Choose]arrow_forwardThe digestive system is composed of many organs. The organs have their specific functions in the digestion process. For you, what are the importance of knowing the function of the organce?arrow_forward
- The salivary glands, pancreas, liver and gall bladder are considered accessory organs in the digestive system. They are not part of the digestive track but contribute to digestion. List the accessory organ associated with each the following functions. Produces bicarbonate to neutralize acidity as stomach contents enter the small intestine. Stores and releases bile to aid in breakdown of fats. Produces bile. Produces enzymes that enter the small intestine and aid in digestion. Moistens food Produces salivary amylase Produces hormones that regulate blood glucose levels. Stores glucose as glycogen (a polysaccharide)arrow_forwardWhich of the following nutrients are transported to the liver via the hepatic portal vein? Select all that apply. Fatty acids Monoacylglycerols lucose Amino acidsarrow_forwardThere are several processes that take place from the moment food enters our mouth until it is completely digested and used for energy. Using approximately 400-500 words, describe in detail and in order of process the mechanical (stomach and intestine)and chemical (gastric acid and enzymes) digestion of eating a grilled chicken sandwich with mayonnaise, lettuce, and tomatoes. Note what role the pancreas, gallbladder, and liver play in digestion of the ingredients? From what ingredients is your body deriving its energy and how many basic calories from the macronutrients ingested?
