To determine:

A series of balanced equations and an overall equation for the net reaction describing oxidation of 2 mol of glutamate to 2 mol of $\text{α-ketoglutrate}$ and 1 mol of urea.

Introduction:

Glutamate plays a central role in the metabolism of nitrogen. The amino acids present in the cytosol of hepatocytes transfer their amino groups to $\text{α-ketoglutrate}$ and form glutamate that later forms NH₄⁺ and enters into mitochondria.
