Interpretation:

The labelling of $\text{α and β}$ carbon in given reaction and to check whether the compound is $\text{β-hydroxy}$ compound is to be determined.

Concept introduction:

Aldol condensation is a condensation reaction in which carbonyl compound is converted to $\text{β-hydroxyaldehyde}$ or $\text{β-hydroxyketone}$. This aldol condensation also takes place with the help of base catalyst which is $\text{NaOH}$. Since this aldol condensation should contain $\text{α}$ hydrogen in it.
