Transcription is promoted by the short sequences of gene in the DNA. The transcriptional activator proteins bind to the sequences called enhancer which may or may not be present on the same chromosome to activate the transcriptional process. Enhancers are those regulatory elements which contain various binding sites for the transcription activator proteins and affect transcription of distantly located genes.
