The reaction of glucose with hemoglobin at the absence of an enzyme at Schiff base formation between C1 glucose and amino termini of the β chains and its application in diabetic monitoring is to be determined.
Concept introduction:
Glucose is the major source of body energy. When glucose reacts with amino termini of the β chains on hemoglobin, it gives a compound named glycosylated hemoglobin or hemoglobin A1C. The blood glucose level in the diabetic patient is calculated by measuring the glycosylated hemoglobin that is formed by the said reactions.
