The Eco-Marathon is an annual competition sponsored by Shell Oil, in which participants build special vehicles to achieve the highest possible fuel efficiency. The Eco-Marathon is held around the world with events in the United Kingdom. Finland, France. Holland, Japan, and the United States.
A world record was set in the Eco-Marathon by a French team in 2003 called Microjoule with a performance of 10,705 miles per gallon. The Microjoule runs on ethanol, which has a specific gravity of 0.789. Write a MATLAB program to determine how far the Microjoule will travel in kilometers given a user-specified amount of ethanol, provided in units of grams. Your program should ask for the mass using an input statement and display the distance in a formatted sentence similar to the output shown below.
Sample Input/Output
Enter mass of ethanol [grams]: 100
The distance the Microjoule traveled is 577 kilometers.

Jill maintains her vehicle according to the distance maintenance schedule below taking into consideration both kilometres driven and elapsed time. The fuel consumption rating for her sports car is 8.3 L/100 km. Each year, Jill pays $1960 for insurance and $98 for her vehicle license plate registration. During those 3 years, Jill renews her driver's licence at a cost of $80. The average cost of fuel is $1.06/L. Determine Jill's average monthly operating cost during the 3 years. What is the minimum speed with which your friend needs to leave the ramp in order to land on the building? B. Another friend is going to use his motorized scooter for the same stunt. The maximum speed of the scooter is 15.0 m/s. How close to the building should you move the ramp so that your friend lands on the roof right at the front edge of the building?arrow_forward
- As we explained in earlier chapters, the air resistance to the motion of a vehicle is something important that engineers investigate. The drag force acting on a car is determined experimentally by placing the car in a wind tunnel. The air speed inside the tunnel is changed, and the drag force acting on the car is measured. For a given car, the experimental data generally is represented by a single coefficient that is called drag coefficient. It is defined by the following relationship: F, where air resistance for a car that has a listed C, = drag coefficient (unitless) measured drag force (N) drag coefficient of 0.4 and width of 190 cm and height of 145 cm. To start the crate moving, you have to pull with a 230-N horizontal force. Once the crate "breaks loose" and starts to move, you can keep it moving at constant velocity with only 200 N. What are the coeffi- cients of static and kinetic friction? Example 5.15 Minimizing kinetic friction In Example 5.13, suppose you move the crate by pulling upward on the rope at an angle of 30 above the horizontal. How hard must you pull to keep it moving with constant velocity? Assume that H = 0.40. Example 5.16 Toboggan ride with friction I Let's go back to the toboggan we studied in Example 5.10. The wax has worn off, so there is now a nonzero coefficient of kinetic friction 4. The slope has just the right angle to make the toboggan slide with constant velocity. Find this angle in terms of w and Hg.
