Gluconeogenesis is the back conversion of pyruvate to glucose. During this reaction 4 ATP and 2 GTP molecules are used, hence, this reaction is endogenic in nature. Moreover, gluconeogenesis helps in the conditions of hypoglycemia, that is, low blood glucose level.
