Interpretation: The difference in elemental composition of proteins from carbohydrates and fats should be explained.
Concept Introduction:
Carbohydrates, protein and fats are main macronutrients. They are essential component of a balanced diet. The proteins, carbohydrates and fats are made up of three basic molecules- carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Proteins contain Nitrogen and some also contain sulphur which is not present in the carbohydrates and fats. The proteins consist of amino acids while carbohydrates consist of monosaccharide or sugar and fats consist of trisaccharide.
