Interpretation: The characteristics of
Concept introduction: Arrhenius's theory is introduced in 1887 by Swedish scientist Svante Arrhenius.Arrhenius gives the concept of acid and base.
Answer to Problem 2A
Arrhenius acid is a substance that dissociates in water to form hydrogen ions and the Arrhenius base is a substance that dissociates in water to form hydroxide ions.
Explanation of Solution
Arrhenius theory is the most limited theory since it requires the solution to be aqueous. It only applies to the substances that produce hydrogen ions or hydroxide ions. Arrhenius acid dissolves in water to give hydrogen ion and bases produce hydroxide ions when dissolved in water.
Arrhenius acid and base both dissociate when dissolving in water to give hydrogen ion and hydroxide ion.
