Summary Introduction

To place: The given structures in order for relaying sensory input to the spinal cord.

Concept introduction: The spinal cord is housed within the vertebral column. The spinal cord extends from the medulla oblongata in the brain and is part of the central nervous system (CNS). The 31 pairs of nerves that arise from the spinal cord are known as spinal nerves. The spinal nerves are mixed nerves and carry motor, autonomic, and sensory signals between the body and the spinal cord for relaying it to the brain. The spinal cord is the processing center for the sensory input and motor output between brain and receptors of the torso.
