To review:

The tethering mechanism of oRG cells, as these are the cells which are able to apply tension to the pial surface and promote folding of the cerebral cortex. Also explain the pulling force necessary to fold the cortex.

Introduction:

During the time course of evolution, their is an expansion of the mammalian neocortex which leads to an increase in cortical surface area followed by varying degree of cortical folding. This folding is attributed to the differences in size and composition of germinal zones of embryo. The SVZ (subventricular zone) posses expansion in gyrencephalic primates, and divided into an inner and outer region. The SVZ also contains intermediate progenitor cells, these IPCs upon division leads to the formation of neurons and outer radial cells (oRG) cells. oRGs are similar to vRGs (ventricular radial glia) in the expression of radial glia markers, the only difference is the lack of an apical attachment to the ventricular surface.
