To review:
The mechanism of N-cadherin mediated neural proginator migration in the neocortex. Also explain the role of cell sorting in this migration, when the cell adhesion play a fundamental role in layering the cortex.
Introduction:
The presence of distinct neuronal layers is a specific characterstic of the mammalian neocortex. These neuronal layers are generated by the sequential migration of neurons which are in developing stage, along the neuroepithelial or radial glial cells. This migration is tightly regulated by a signalling mechanism present in developing neocortex. The cadherins are designated as a group of cell-cell adhesion molecules, which play an important role in a number of morphogenetic and pathological processes.
