The experiments performed by Avery and other colleagues that depicted that proteins were not the genetic material.

Introduction:

In the year 1928, Griffith discovered that when heat-killed smooth strain (S) was mixed with the rough strain (R) and injected in mice, the mice died. It meant that something was getting transferred from the heat-killed virulent (S) cells to the avirulent (R) cells. This came to be known as the transforming principle. Griffith did not know the biochemical nature of this transforming principle. Therefore, in 1944, Avery, McCarty, and MacLeod did experiments to find out the chemical nature of the same.
