In Newton’s insight, what did a falling apple have in common with the moon?
To Explain: In Newton's insight, a falling apple have in common with the moon.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Newton knew that the speed and direction of an object would be changed by applying a force. He saw apple falling in a straight-line path towards earth. But the Moon does not fall, it revolves around in circular orbit around the earth.
Newton knew that circular motion of a Moon around earth was an accelerated motion. For both motions a force is required. He predicted that this force is Earth’s gravitational force.
Conclusion:
Both moon and apple is in motion due to gravitational force of earth.
