The response of a system at equilibrium to applied stresses should be explained based on Le Chatelier’s principle.
Concept Introduction:
- A system is referred to be in a state of equilibrium if the
rate of forward reaction equals the rate of the reverse reaction. - A system at equilibrium is characterized by the equilibrium constant which is a ratio of the concentrations of the products to that of the reactants.
- The direction of the equilibrium can be altered by changing the concentration of the reactants or products, changing the temperature or pressure conditions.
