Concept introduction: Based on cell sorting, the proteins are of two types: secretory proteins and the cytosolic proteins. Secretory proteins are modified in the ER, packed in the Golgi and sent to the plasma membrane for export. For the protein to get sorted into the ER, the ER signal sequence is required.
