Chapter 12, Problem 10CT
Summary Introduction

To answer:

Explain why both dinoflagellates and Euglenids were originally classified as protozoa by zoologist as algae and by botanists.

Introduction:

Dinoflagellates are eukaryotic protists with flagellum for their movement. These organisms are planktons in which most of them are marine, but also common in fresh water. They are also called as sea sparkle. Henry Baker has described them as animalcules causing sparkles in seawater due to their luminescence nature. Dinoflagellate are categorised then under flagellate and under algal division Pyrrophyta respectively. Euglenids are flagellates, endosymbiont freshwater eukaryotes. Euglenids have organelles like chloroplast which helps in photosynthesis process. Euglenids are categorised under flagellate order Euglenids and an algal division Euglenophyta as protozoa and algae respectively.
