Chapter 11, Problem 4P
Summary Introduction

To explain:   To arrange the order of RNA, Ca2+, glucose, ethanol, N2, and water according to their ability of diffusion through a lipid bilayer starting with the molecule that crosses more readily.

Concept introduction: In living cells phospholipid bilayer is responsible for designing the membrane through which exchange of materials like nutrients and ions with their external environments occurs. Mostly biological membranes are semi-permeable lipid bilayer. By means of active or passive transport method some certain molecules or ions passes across the membrane is called membrane permeability. Lipid bilayer is highly permeability for non-polar that is fat-soluble molecules, where as the lipid bilayer is low permeable to charged molecular ions and polar molecules.
